There is so much anticipation in the weeks before a new baby arrives. But when you’re already a mom, there’s another part of the story unfolding too: these are the last days with your first baby as your only baby.
This Mommy & Me maternity session in my Burbank studio was about documenting both.
We created simple, beautiful maternity portraits of mom on her own, celebrating her pregnancy and the baby boy she’ll soon meet. But some of my favorite images were the ones with her toddler—the snuggles, hands resting on mom’s belly, and tiny arms wrapped around her.
Photographs of what their relationship looks like right now, just before she becomes a big sister.

A maternity session doesn’t have to be only about your pregnancy. It can also document the family growing around this new little person.
For moms expecting their second baby, I especially love including an older child in part of the session. There is something incredibly meaningful about photographing the two of you during this in-between stage—when your belly is growing, baby is almost here, and your firstborn still has you all to herself for just a little longer.
One day, these photographs become part of baby brother’s story too. He’ll get to see just how loved and anticipated he was before he ever arrived.

My Burbank photography studio provides a comfortable, relaxed setting where the focus can stay on you, your connection, and your growing family.
For this session, we kept everything soft and simple so the photographs felt intimate rather than overly styled.
During maternity sessions, I love creating a mix of portraits: photographs of mom alone, close-up details of her pregnancy, and images with her children or partner. It gives us the opportunity to celebrate you while also telling the larger story of this season.
And if your toddler needs a break, we follow their lead.
Some children want to cuddle immediately. Others need a little time to warm up. That’s completely okay. The goal is never perfection—it’s photographs that feel like your family.
As a Los Angeles maternity and newborn photographer, one of my favorite parts of this work is documenting families through these transitions—from pregnancy, to meeting their newborn, to all of the milestones that follow.
Because maternity photographs aren’t only about what you looked like while pregnant.
They are about who your family was right before everything changed.
These are the photographs you’ll someday show your little boy when you tell him how excited you were to meet him. They’re the photographs your oldest will have from the days when it was still just the two of you.
And together with newborn photographs, they become the beginning of your family’s next chapter.

I believe your photographs deserve to live somewhere more meaningful than your camera roll.
Part of the experience at Marie Buck Photography is helping you turn your favorite images into artwork for your home—whether that’s custom framing you walk past every day or an heirloom album that tells the story of your growing family.
There is something especially meaningful about preserving maternity photographs this way.
Years from now, your children will be able to see themselves in your family’s story before they can even remember it: the way you held your belly while waiting to meet them, the way their big sister curled up beside you, and just how loved they already were.
As your family grows, your artwork can grow with it. Maternity portraits can live alongside newborn photographs and first-year milestones, creating a visual history of your family that becomes more meaningful with time.
Maternity sessions can include portraits of you alone as well as your partner and children, and we’ll plan your wardrobe and the overall look of your session together.
For families who want to document more than one chapter, maternity can also be the beginning of a First Year Collective, allowing us to photograph your family from pregnancy through your baby’s first year and create an heirloom album that tells the entire story.
If you’re looking for a Los Angeles maternity photographer and want photographs that feel beautiful, connected, and true to your family, I would love to help you document this chapter and create something tangible your family can hold onto for generations.
Because before there was a baby brother, there was this: you, your first baby, and the beautiful anticipation of someone new joining you.

Your family is already changing, even before your baby arrives. A maternity session gives you the chance to slow down and preserve what this season feels like right now—the anticipation, the connection, and the last days before your family grows.
If you’re looking for a Los Angeles maternity photographer, I’d love to help you create photographs that feel meaningful now and become even more valuable with time.
